Dinesh Karthik Picks Pujara Rahanes Replacement For Border Gavaskar Trophy

Dinesh Karthik Picks UP Pujara-Rahane's Replacement for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Key Points:

  • Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been dropped from the Indian Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
  • Dinesh Karthik has picked Shreyas Iyer as their replacement.
  • Iyer has been in excellent form in recent months, scoring a century in each of his last three Test matches.

Dinesh Karthik's Selection

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has picked Shreyas Iyer as the replacement for Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Karthik, who is now a commentator and analyst, said that Iyer is the "ideal" replacement for Pujara and Rahane because of his current form and ability to play spin bowling well. "Iyer is in the form of his life at the moment," Karthik said. "He has scored a century in each of his last three Test matches. He is also a very good player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy."

Iyer's Impressive Form

Iyer has been in excellent form in recent months. In the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka, he scored 92 and 67 in the first Test, and 192 and 27 in the second Test. He also scored a century in the first Test against New Zealand in November. Iyer's impressive form has seen him rise to No. 10 in the ICC Test batting rankings. He is now the highest-ranked Indian batsman in the Test format.

Pujara and Rahane's Struggles

In contrast to Iyer's excellent form, Pujara and Rahane have struggled for runs in recent months. Pujara has not scored a century in his last 10 Test matches, while Rahane has not scored a century in his last 15 Test matches. As a result of their poor form, Pujara and Rahane have been dropped from the Indian Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
